This is  coriander and mint chutney with a big difference! Amazingly good!

You are going to love this coriander and mint chutney. It’s one of the first recipes that made its way to my blog and I’ve been making it ever since. The secret ingredient is mango chutney but don’t tell anyone.

I promise you that if you serve this coriander and mint chutney at your next curry feast, you will impress your guests big time.

About this coriander and mint chutney.

I’m usually quite good and identifying flavours but when I tried this coriander and mint chutney was  a bit stumped.

This is a recipe I learned from my friend Hasan at his restaurant Hasan’s in Leeds. Unfortunately, the restaurant is no longer there but with this recipe and a few others on this blog, you can still try some of the most amazing Indian food around.

When Hasan served this coriander and mint chutney to me, he asked me to guess what was in it. I got all the ingredients right except for the mango chutney but it’s that mango chutney that makes is so good and unique.

Can you use any mango chutney to make this recipe?

Yes. Any mango chutney will do but if you have a brand you like or if you make your own mango chutney, you should use that.

What do you serve with coriander and mint chutney?

Coriander and mint chutney is a big favourite at curry houses and other Indian restaurants. 

You will find it served with seekh kebabs and other BBQ dishes, poppadoms, chicken samosas, beef samosas and lots of other popular starters.

Really this is an amazing sweet, sour, savoury and spicy chutney that goes well with just about everything, not just Indian food.

How long can you keep this coriander and mint chutney in the fridge?

you can store it in the fridge for at least a week or even longer. Let your eyes and nose decide. If it smells or looks at all like it is off, throw it away.

As long as you store it in a clean glass jar in the fridge, you should be able to serve it for a good couple of weeks. In fact, if you do, the flavours will actually develop and it will be even better.

What are the key ingredients in this chutney?

Coriander and Mint: Fresh coriander (cilantro) and mint are used to add freshness and natural flavours to the chutney.
Smooth Mango Chutney: This add a sweetness to the chutney.
Green Chillies: These are added to spice it all up. You can add more or less to taste.
Garlic: Personally I prefer more than one clove of garlic. If you like your garlic and a nice garlicky flavour, consider adding more.
Lime juice: This adds a sour flavour to the chutney and should be added to taste.
Salt: Add salt liberally and to taste to give it a savoury flavour.

Coriander and Mint Chutney

Ingredients

  • 1 large bunch mint leaves
  • 1 small bunch coriander leaves
  • 200ml smooth mango chutney
  • 1 - 4 fresh green chillies - finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic - finely chopped
  • Juice of one lime
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the coriander and mint leaves. Place them in a blender with the rest of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
  2. Season with walt to taste and also adjust the other flavours to taste.
  3. This quick and easy coriander and mint chutney will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks. It is amazing simply served over rice or with poppadoms, samosas, seekh kebabs or anyting really.
