Planning a Kerala trip? Put simply, Lake Canopy is about as close to paradise as I’ve ever been. Not just because of its serene location and friendly staff, though for many that would be all that’s needed. We’re talking perfection here!
For me, good food is important wherever I stay and you won’t find any better than at Lake Canopy. When my wife Caroline and I booked our room, we didn’t really know what to expect. There were so many hotels in the Alleppey region to choose from so we just chose one. We chose right!
From the moment we arrived, we knew this place would be special. We arrived early after staying the night on a rice boat cruise and our room wasn’t quite ready.
So they immediately made us feel at home with a welcoming fruit drink in the comfortable and air conditioned lobby. Within minutes they had prepared our room and we were over the moon with what awaited us.
The rooms are all spacious and comfortable. We chose a premium room but you can also choose rooms that feature an indoor pool or jacuzzi bath. When we return, and we most definitely will, I think we might just splurge and get that indoor pool room!
Then again, perhaps not. If you are there when the weather is nice, outdoors is the place to be.
The main reason for our trip to Kerala was to research recipes for my next cookbook “The Curry Guy Light”. We have tried some amazing food during our time here in Kerala and the food we enjoyed at Lake Canopy by Head Chef Vipin V.U has been incredible.
It’s like you eat one of his meals for lunch and you can’t wait to go back and start eating again for dinner. It’s really that good.
Although he serves specialties from all over India, it was the Keralan food we wanted to enjoy and that we did. If you love you’re food as much as we do, you’ll want to check out the following photos.
All of the staff have been great. Not only that, the people in the area couldn’t be nicer. Caroline and I went for a five mile walk to check out where we were and couldn’t believe how friendly everyone was.
People were greeting us and saying hello, smiling. That just doesn’t happen back home but then, this is Kerala and it is a very special place.
I would like to send a big thank you to Chef Vipin for loaning me a book of his family recipes. I spent a whole afternoon reading through them which, when you do what I do for a living was about as good as it gets.
Vipin has been amazing, showing us just how good Keralan food can be. We will be back!
Caroline and I were paying guests at Lake Canopy. All views are my own and I received no payment for this review. I just thought it was something you all should know and I had to share it with you.
