What is Cajun seasoning?

There are of course many different blends that you can prepare. This Cajun seasoning recipe is used as a flavouring for sauces, pastas and rice and is also a key ingredient in Cajun blackened fish and chicken.

Many people falsely assume that Cajun ‘blackened’ fish and chicken are burnt. They aren’t. It’s the heavy use of red spices such as paprika and chilli powder that give the chicken and fish their blackened appearance when fried or grilled.

How long will Cajun seasoning last?

That’s down to how fresh your ingredients are when you make it.

Usually, your seasoning should last a good 6 months without much loss of flavour. You need to store it in an air-tight container in a cool and dark location such as a cupboard.
