You’re going to love this burger recipe!

Making your own burgers is always best. I hope you find this burger recipe to be right up there with the best.

It might be a copycat burger recipe but it’s one heck of a lot better than the original.

My first BK experience.

I can still remember the first time I went to Burger King. I was eight and my family stopped there on our way back home after a week in Tahoe. The fast food burger chain wasn’t found all over the place like it is today.

I was starving and stopping at Burger King was an exciting experience.

I had a Whopper and it was amazing! Bigger than my hands!

The buns were nicely toasted and topped with a flame grilled burger with lots of fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions. It was a completely different burger experience to what you get these days. For this reason, I decided to recreate that first experience with this burger recipe.

Tips on getting this burger recipe right.

I have never liked  doing things by halves. When I create a burger recipe, it has to be delicious and memorable! I do love my burgers.

Copycat burger recipe or not, my burger had to be much better than the original or there really wouldn’t be any point in making it. Right?

When I copy recipes, I do so not to make them identical to what you get at the restaurant but instead, how I think they should be.

I baked my own fresh burger buns and walked up to my local butcher, for the best aged minced beef and freshest vegetables I could find.

Here is my bun recipe if you need one. A homemade burger recipe needs to call for the best buns. Homemade bread rolls are one of the many things that make this burger recipe what it is.

This made all the difference! The buns are perfect and soft done this way. Use the freshest and best quality ingredients you can get your hands on and you will be in burger heaven.

I also made sure to use 100% real Cheddar Slices. None of those processed cheese slices were going on this burger!

You could fry the meat in a pan but if you want the original Burger King flame grilled flavour, you need to cook on a BBQ which is how I prepared my Whopper.

Are you ready to get started with the burger recipe? Go for it!

Be sure to stack your Whopper with ingredients in the exact order shown.

How To Make A Double Whopper With Cheese

Burger King Whopper Copycat
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 6 minutes
Total Time 26 minutes

  • 2 x quarter pound beef patties pressed thinly and round
  • 1 sesame seed burger bun - about 6" diameter
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 slices of 100% Cheddar deli slices
  • 2 slices of tomato
  • Dill pickle slices
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Onion slices
  • Ketchup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Heat a gas or charcoal BBQ until very hot. If using charcoal, you want the coals to be white hot.
  2. Start by preparing your bun. Toast your buns, sliced side down in a little butter until nicely browned.
  3. Spread the mayonnaise on the top bun.
  4. Now place your burger patties on the hot grill and cook for about two minutes. They should not take long to cook through as they are so thin.
  5. Season the burgers generously with salt and pepper and then flip them over.
  6. Top with the cheese slices and grill for a further couple of minutes.
  7. When cooked to your liking, place one patty on top of the other and transfer to the bottom bun.
  8. Top the cheese with the sliced pickles followed by three rings of ketchup.
  9. Now place the onion rings on top of the ketchup followed by the tomatoes (place side by side) and then the shredded lettuce.
  10. Eat!
