Big Mac Tacos are all the rage at the moment. Make them yourself at home!
I’m not a big fan of the Big Mac but I do love my homemade Big Mac. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with different Big Mac versions just because I want to do something new on this otherwise curry focussed blog.
You are going to love these Big Mac tacos. If you are gluten free, make them with corn tortillas or you could just try this new Big Mac Salad with Big Mac sauce salad dressing.
About this recipe.
Big Mac tacos are all over social media so I decided to give them a try using my own homemade Big Mac Sauce. These Big Mac tacos really do taste like a Big Mac because the only ingredient that is different is the tortilla substitute for the buns.
This is a fun recipe that gets amazingly, delicious results. You can whip up a few Big Mac tacos in no time. We’re talking less than 20 minutes!
What do you need for this recipe?
As mentioned above, this recipe is very similar to the Big Mac but you use tortillas instead of sesame seed buns. You will need…
- 900g (1 lb.) minced (ground) beef. I purchase mine from my butcher and ask for a 75%/25% beef to fat ratio. A mix of skirt, chuck and brisket.
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 small flour tortillas. If you are on a gluten free diet, try corn tortillas.
- American cheese slices, as many as you want but I usually use about two per Big Mac taco.
- Shredded lettuce, as much as you like. I usually shred about 1/2 iceberg lettuce for this recipe.
- 6 tbsp Big Mac sauce
- 12 dill pickle chips – If you can’t get dill pickles chips, use another you like
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
How do you make Big Mac Tacos?
- Divide the meat into 6 equal sized meat balls.
- Spread the meat into thin patties over the tortillas and press it down.
- Heat a pan over a medium-high heat and place the tortillas in the pan, meat side down. Then press them into the pan with a burger press or spatula.
- Fry for about 4 minutes or until you have a nice char on the underside. Flip it over and season with salt and pepper to taste and then place a burger dome or lid over it to help melt the cheese.
- Transfer the cooked Big Mac Tacos to a plate and top with the lettuce, chopped onion, pickles chips, sesame seeds and Big Mac Sauce to serve.
Can you store leftover in the fridge?
I don’t recommend doing this. You could of course do that for up to three days but they just won’t be as good. If you do decide to store leftovers, be sure to cover them tightly with foil or clingfilm.
You can heat them back up in a pan over medium heat. It is best not to top the tacos before storing. You can add fresh salad toppings and sauce after you reheat Your Big Mac tacos.
Do you have to stick to the recipe exactly?
Not at all. Do it like this and you will have Big Mac tacos that taste like Big Macs.
There is no reason why you can’t change the recipe. Call it a smash burger taco if you like. Add the ingredients you want on your taco like tomatillo and avocado salsa, Jalapeño hot sauce or pico de gallo for example. Use a different cheese. Make these with ground turkey… If it sounds good to you, it most likely will be.
